Once again TEC provided sound, lighting and video for Freshers Address which is an event hosted by Nottingham University and the Students Union that officially welcomes the thousands of new students to the university and student life. This year provided us with a new challenge as the event now has a much more corporate feel.
The key to the sound system was providing an even, clear coverage of the large sports hall. We did this using Nexo alpha as the main front of house system and Nexo PS15s as delays.
Video was done in collaboration with Nottingham University Television Station (NUTS). We provided the screens and all the switching capability for the various inputs required.
1kW profiles were used for the stage lighting wash and artistic effects were created using Martin Mac 250 lighting fixtures. We also gobo-washed the room and lit drape and impact sails to create the atmosphere required.
WeekOne Final Party, held at the Capital FM Arena in Nottingham, is the final event of Freshers’ Week. This year it was a massive concert that played host to acts such as Tinchy Stryder, Modestep, Greg James and Pendulum that gave all the new students a night to remember!
Once again, we used large hangs of Nexo Geo-S12 for FOH PA fed from a Yamaha M7CL48 sound desk. The monitor desk was a Soundcraft SM12 and we utilised Nexo Alpha as side fill, Alpha-E as drum fill and PS-15 as monitor wedges.
The lighting rig consisted of Martin moving heads such as Mac 500s, Mac 600s, Mac 250 Kryptons and Mac 250 Washes. Martin Atomics provided all of our strobing requirements and standard generics such as ACLs, parcans and blinders were also used. All of this was controlled from two Avolites Pearl Experts running the Titan operating system.
Two rear projection screens were placed either side of the stage and the projectors used were the incredibly bright CHRISTIE LX700s. We also provided high quality broadcast cameras and a vision mixer.
