This summer saw us set off once again to Greenbelt festival at Cheltenham Racecourse. We provided sound and light for the Underground venue, which showcased mainly heavy metal music, as well as a mixture of new acts. The venue gave many challenges, due to the unsusual shape of the room, but we pulled it off. It was a great opportunity for many people to operate and learn new areas of TEC, as well as to chill together at our campsite.
For the 3rd year running, TEC provided sound and lighting for the
University of Nottingham Summer Party. This year, the festival
consisted of 3 venues: the mainstage and two dance tents.
Mainstage played host to acts ranging from student bands to headline
acts such as Feeder, Pendulum and Example. The sound system was a
massive groundstacked pile of Nexo Alpha, with a Nexo PS15 monitor
rig. Control for both FoH and monitors was taken care of by Yamaha
M7CL48s.
The lighting rig for mainstage, controlled from two Avolites Pearl
Experts, consisted of Martin macs and atomics alongside the compulsory
bars of PAR64s and ACLs.
The first dance tent showcased the best DJs local Nottingham clubs
have to offer whilst the second was dedicated to drum and bass music.
The PA systems were our tried and tested stacks of Alpha and Alpha-E
whilst the lighting designs aimed to create two very different
atmospheres.
Overall, despite massive budget cuts, the event was an overwhelming
success and we look forward to working with the Students' Union to put
on next year's event.
TEC once again were asked to transform Colwick Hall's dull car park
into a spectacular venue for the University of Nottingham's Graduation
Ball.
The main venue is in a temporary marquee which makes stage design a
challenge due to the geometry of the space and the load rating of the
structure. Our solution to this is to construct an elegant arch-like
ground supported truss structure over the stage. This very closely
matches the profile of the roof and makes the most of the space
available. This allows for a stunning and unobtrusive lighting
design. The marquee is also draped in starcloth creating a truly
magical atmosphere
We also set up a smaller stage in the banqueting suite which played
host to a jazz quartet during the meal and was taken over by DJs
afterwards. The trick here is providing a sound system that covers the
venue evenly for the quiet background music whilst still catering for
the following nightclub style acts.
The event was powered from 4 generators. A 250kva twin set ran
mainstage whilst two smaller sets ran the 2nd venue and the various
other bits and pieces around site (including Studio Due City Colours
which illuminated the beautiful hall).
The event was an overwhelming success. As always, TEC proudly played
their part in creating a final memory for many students saying
farewell to university life.
TEC provided Sound and Lighting for this years Hu-Stu Summer Party.
This year's event was scaled down somewhat from the years before it with there only being two venues. There was the outdoor acoustic stage using our PS-15 over LS1200 system along with the main venue indoors.
Due to the fire regulations TEC had to come up with a different way to get the atmosphere the client was looking for. The solution for this was taken from the same job the year before. This involved a large truss box with the cross in the center artistically covered with impact sails which where illuminated by a range of Martin wash and profile moving head fixtures, High-end technobeams, crowd blinders and a large quantity of Martin Atomic Strobes.
As per the previous year, there were known problems with heat levels in the venue. This coupled with the smoke regulations lead to the hire of a CO2 cannon and operator which had a great visual impact which the crowd loved.
TEC also provided architectural lighting to illuminate the hall using studio Due city colours
Once again the event was a great success for TEC and the client was incredibly happy.
