Nottingham University Students Union turned to TEC again this year to provide sound and lighting for the annual Summer Party, which according to radio 1 is the largest and most successful student-only festival in the country.
The festival this year consisted of 4 dance tents, an introductions stage and of course the main stage featuring N-Dubz, Chicane, Example, Funeral For a Friend and many more.
For main stage this year we used Nexo's Geo S12 line array system with an Yamaha M7CL48 and a Midas XL3 at FOH. The monitor rig was Nexo PS-15s, Nexo Alpha-E and Sennheiser IEMs run off another M7CL48. Lighting consisted of Martin Atomics, Clay Paky AlphaWash 300s, AlphaBeam 300 and AlphaSpot 1200s run alongside generics such as bars of ACLs and the obligatory bars of PAR64 cans using an Avolites Pearl Expert console.
The dance tents consisted of 20k Nexo Alpha or Alpha-E PA with lighting fixtures including Martin Mac250s, Martin Atomics, Martin Wizards, Thomas Pixel Line and High End Technobeams.
The introductions stage (inside one of the tents before the night-time events took off) made use of a Yamaha LS932 FOH desk with Nexo Alpha for PA. The monitor rig make use of a Soundcraft SM12 desk with SSE MB3 wedges.
The event was again a great success and, with no issues at all on the day, ran almost too smoothly!
TEC provided sound, lighting and AV systems for annual Hu-Stu Summer Party. The party consisted of 5 venues. The first being an outdoor Band Rig where TEC provided Nexo PS-15s over LS1200 subs for FOH PA, CS152 wedges and an Allen and Heath GL2400 mixing console.
The event was held on the night of Englands first game in the world cup and TEC provided an 85'' plasma screen which proved to be very popular.
The hall's Junior Common Room (JCR) was transformed into an 'underground' venue for which TEC provided atmospheric lighting for the room, Strobe and UV lighting for the dance-floor and an Nexo Alpha-E sound system.
The Main Venue is always a challenge at Hu-Stu because of a strict no smoke policy which makes creating a good atmosphere a challenge. To combat this, TEC build a ground supported truss system using Prolyte H30V and MPT towers and stretched impact sails around it. These were lit using a mixture Martin Mac250 wash and profile fixtures, Martin Atomics and High-End Technobeams creating the intimate atmosphere that helped make the event such a success. Other lighting included Thomas Pixline, UV cannons, Crowd Blinders and lots an lots of stobes!
Another issue with the main venue is the heat. That room is hot at the best of times let alone when it contains hundreds of partying students! To try and make it as comfortable as possible we supplied an air conditioning system as well as a CO2 cannon which blasted the crowd with CO2 gas which cooled the room extremely effectively!
The event was a huge success and TEC helped create one of the best Hu-Stu Summer Parties in years
